Blue Bottle Coffee - Chicago: Cozy Riverside Spot for Light Coffee & Fresh Avocado Toast

Busy but pretty coffee shop with some good avocado toast ($10). It's pricy here but has some good nooks to do work or chat. The coffee tastes light with oat milk as their default. Noise level: 7/10 (BG music audible over many people chatting; 10 is like a packed bar) Visited on a Friday early afternoon

I recently visited Blue Bottle Coffee and had a mixed experience. I ordered the Lemon Yuzu Fizz, hot Nola, and a cappuccino The place was clean, and the service was quick. The room temperature was comfortable, which made the visit pleasant However, I found the prices to be a bit expensive for the quality of the drinks. While the beverages were decent, they didn't quite justify the higher price point. Overall, it was an okay experience, but I expected a bit more in terms of drink quality for the cost.

Delicious coffee first of all, which makes it enough. But in top of that there’s good food too, amicable staff, beautiful people from all over town or tourists walking in, splendid terrace, amazing people-watch location. And yeah, again, great coffee

I love Blue Bottle cafes and coffee, but this one specifically is so well located! It’s by the river, the indoor space is bathed in light. There is an outdoor space to sit by the river, it’s so nice. They have good pastries too.

Really nice ambiance, cozy and calm. The coffee was excellent, smooth and rich. Bread was fresh and tasty. Great spot for a relaxed break.

The space is really lovely! A spot to sit, enjoy the river view, and get some work done. It has a calm, welcoming atmosphere that makes it ideal for working or relaxing. However, the food and drink experience was a bit underwhelming and overpriced. The menu is quite simple with limited options. I ordered an avocado toast and asked to add an egg on the side. The cashier seemed a bit new and had trouble getting the order right — it took some time, and he accidentally made it a to-go order when I had asked to dine in. The table I sat at hadn’t been cleaned — it still had dishes from the previous guests — so I had to ask someone to clear it. As for the food, the avocado toast had a strange bitter aftertaste, and the mocha wasn’t great either. To make things worse, the mocha alone was $8.50, which felt very overpriced for the quality. Overall, I wouldn’t go back for the food or drinks, but I’d still return just for the ambiance. It’s a beautiful, peaceful space — perfect for working or enjoying the view by the river.

Blue Bottle is a favorite of mine, and while visiting from out of town, this location truly stood out. From the moment I walked in, I was met with so much kindness. Mila—thank you for making my day start on such a great note. You are truly a light!
